Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus’ EU Presidency has postponed two informal councils of ministers scheduled for early March after the British Akrotiri air force base was struck by a drone amid the crisis in Iran. The Presidency cited disruptions to flights to Cyprus that prevented many participants from arriving.

Meetings postponed and to be rescheduled

The informal council of ministers for European affairs, originally scheduled for March 2 and 3, and the informal council of culture, planned for March 5 and 6, have been postponed.

In a statement on Monday, the Presidency said regional developments affected flights to Cyprus, preventing many participants from arriving, and that both meetings will be rescheduled. It said other meetings scheduled for this week will be held online.

In cases of postponement, the Presidency said new dates will be set where possible and will be announced.

Government postpones planned council meeting

Earlier on Monday, the government postponed a planned meeting of the European general affairs council.
