Cyprus property developers’ chairman says real estate sector is entering a period of transformation

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus’ real estate sector is entering a period of transformation, according to Yiannis Misirlis, chairman of the Cyprus Property Developers Association. He said property development is increasingly focused on shaping the country’s economic, social and urban future.

Shift in the sector’s role

Misirlis said property development is no longer simply about constructing buildings or tracking investment flows, but increasingly about shaping Cyprus’ future. He made the remarks during his address at the 20th annual Real Estate, Property Development & Construction Summit.

From growth driver to broader expectations

He said that for decades the real estate sector had been one of the defining engines of the Cypriot economy, primarily attracting foreign investment, generating employment and stimulating economic activity. Misirlis added that while this role remains critical, expectations of the sector today are broader.

Developers’ role in city life

Misirlis said property developers are now expected to do more than build projects, including helping shape the cities where people live, work and raise their families. He added that the real estate sector is increasingly shaping economic growth.

Changing cities and a new approach

Misirlis said Cyprus is changing rapidly, with cities such as Limassol and Nicosia undergoing what he described as a structural transformation driven by international investment, the relocation of global companies and a growing population of professionals choosing Cyprus as a base. He said this evolution demands a different approach to property development.
