Cyprus ranks second in EU for weekend work rate in 2025, Eurostat says

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus recorded one of the highest rates of weekend work in the European Union in 2025, with 31.3% of employees usually working during weekends, according to Eurostat. The figure placed Cyprus second after Greece and ahead of Malta.


Cyprus among highest in EU

Eurostat data showed Greece had the highest share of weekend work at 31.5%, followed by Cyprus at 31.3% and Malta at 29.2%. Across the EU, 21.3% of employed people aged 15 to 64 usually worked during weekends in 2025.

Weekend work by occupation

Weekend work was more common in certain occupational groups, according to Eurostat. Service and sales workers recorded the highest share at 47.6%, followed by skilled agricultural, forestry and fishery workers at 47.2%, while people in elementary occupations registered 25.7%.

Employees and self-employed

Eurostat reported that 18.5% of employees across the EU usually worked during weekends, while the share was significantly higher among the self-employed.
