Cyprus registered unemployment rises 10.4% year-on-year in April 2026

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus recorded a rise in registered unemployment in April 2026, with jobless figures up 10.4% compared with the same month a year earlier. The Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat) reported 8,962 registered unemployed at District Labour Offices by the end of the month.


Registered and seasonally adjusted figures

Cystat said the number of people officially listed as unemployed reached 8,962 by April 30, 2026. On a seasonally adjusted basis, the figure rose to 10,585.

The seasonally adjusted total increased from 10,316 recorded in March.

Year-on-year change

Compared with April 2025, the total number of registered unemployed increased by 844 people.

Sectors contributing to the increase

Cystat said the increase was mainly driven by accommodation and food service activities, and administrative and support service activities.

It also cited pressure in the transportation sector and in professional, scientific and technical activities.

Trend into the second quarter

The data indicated an upward trend in the number of residents seeking work through official government channels at the start of the second quarter.
