Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus has 561,252 registered voters ahead of the May 24 parliamentary election, according to Interior Ministry permanent secretary Elikkos Elia. April 2 has been set as the final date for voter registration.

Latest voter statistics and registration deadline

Elia told the Cyprus News Agency that the latest statistics, compiled on January 2, show exactly 561,252 people are registered to vote. The election is scheduled for May 24, and eligible voters can register until April 2.

Outreach to new voters and information campaigns

Elia said the interior ministry will send letters to people who will reach the age of 18 before the election to encourage them to register. He added that two information campaigns will be launched in collaboration with the press and information office with the same aim.

New applications and how to register

Since January 3, 775 people have applied to register to vote, with Elia saying a large volume of applications is expected in the coming months. People aged 25 and younger can register online at elections.gov.cy, while those over 25 can register at district administration offices, citizen service centres, and citizen centres at post offices. Application forms are available at those locations or can be downloaded from elections.gov.cy.

Seats contested and district allocation

A total of 56 seats will be up for election, including that of Dipa’s George Penintaex, who became an MP in December after Marinos Mousiouttas vacated his seat to become labour minister. Of the 56 seats, 19 are allocated to the Nicosia district, 12 to Limassol, 11 to Famagusta, six to Larnaca, five to Paphos, and three to Kyrenia.
