Cyprus retail trade turnover rises in April 2026, Cystat says

Nicosia, Cyprus. Retail trade turnover in Cyprus continued to rise in April 2026, with both value and volume indices posting annual increases, according to the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat).


Retail turnover increases

The Turnover Value Index of Retail Trade, excluding motor vehicles, rose by 5.8 per cent year-on-year in April, reaching 141.0 units compared with the same month of the previous year. The Turnover Volume Index increased by 2.9 per cent on an annual basis to 122.1 units.

Performance in the first four months

From January to April 2026, the value index increased by 6.4 per cent compared with the same period in 2025, while the volume index rose by 5.5 per cent.

Category developments

The strongest annual rise in value was recorded in automotive fuel, which increased by 16.5 per cent in April, although its volume index fell by 3.6 per cent.

Other household equipment, including construction materials, carpets, furniture, electrical appliances and lighting, recorded a 10.3 per cent increase in value and an 11.7 per cent rise in volume.

Cultural and recreation goods, including books, stationery, sports equipment and toys, posted a 9.9 per cent increase in value and an 11.2 per cent rise in volume.

Information and communication equipment registered a 6.4 per cent rise in value, while its volume index increased by 17.7 per cent.

Food, beverage and tobacco sales

Food, beverages or tobacco in non-specialised stores, including supermarkets, recorded a 5.9 per cent rise in value and a 2.4 per cent increase in volume.

Specialised stores selling food, beverages and tobacco recorded a 2 per cent increase in value, while their volume index fell by 3.3 per cent.
