Limassol, Cyprus. Government support for residents affected by July 2025 wildfires totalled €17.4 million in 2025 under the Integrated Support Plan, the general accounting office (GAO) said on Friday. The GAO said the budget is funded exclusively from the state budget of the Republic of Cyprus.

Funding and overall allocation

The GAO said the €17.4 million distributed in 2025 represents 19 per cent of the total support budget of €89.6 million, which was determined following a decision by the Council of Ministers. It added that the remaining funds are being allocated through government schemes covering support measures for affected residents and sectors.

Payments and sector support

According to the GAO, one-off community payments have been fully distributed, while 93 per cent of the funding earmarked for the restoration of water supplies has been allocated. It said tourism establishments have received 70 per cent of the designated aid, while 67 per cent of de minimis aid was allocated to affected farmers and livestock breeders.

Emergency special plan for farmers and livestock breeders

The GAO said allocation under the emergency special plan for affected farmers and livestock breeders has been slower, with 13 per cent distributed and 15 per cent of aid earmarked for farmers not covered by the government’s emergency support plan distributed so far.

Monitoring and transparency

The GAO said implementation of the funding programme is being closely monitored, with detailed updates on payments provided regularly to ensure transparency and accurate record-keeping under the Integrated Support Plan. It said contributions from citizens or organised groups continue to be held in a separate bank account and are not used to finance the support budget.

Impact of the July 2025 Limassol wildfires

The Limassol wildfires in July 2025 killed two people, burned around 124 square kilometres and destroyed more than 700 buildings. Damage was estimated at €60 million, excluding compensation for businesses, farmland and agricultural equipment.

Earlier compensation figures

Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou said in late November 2025 that less than €5 million in compensation had been paid out.
