Cyprus Shipping Chamber marks 20th anniversary of Adopt a Ship programme

Limassol, Cyprus. The Cyprus Shipping Chamber held an event on Tuesday to mark the 20th anniversary of the Adopt a Ship programme, highlighting its role in maritime education and student participation. Organisers said primary school student presentations were the event’s most heartwarming and inspiring moment.

Student presentations highlight programme impact

The Cyprus Shipping Chamber said it was privileged to hear children share their experiences in their own words, describing the presentations as demonstrating the programme’s impact on students’ understanding of the maritime world. The chamber added that the students’ enthusiasm reflected the programme’s success in bringing the seafaring industry into the classroom.

Thanks to guests, partners, and sponsors

The chamber thanked distinguished guests who attended the celebration and expressed gratitude to its member companies for their ongoing support in sustaining the initiative. It also gave special recognition to the Cyprus Marine Environment Protection Association (CYMEPA) for what it described as close and valuable cooperation throughout the programme’s development.

The chamber thanked Limassol port operator DP World for hosting the event, as well as sponsors whose contributions supported the anniversary celebrations.

International praise for programme’s influence

International Chamber of Shipping secretary-general Thomas Kazakos praised the programme’s enduring success and said it had been copied in other countries, noting its origins in Cyprus and the support of CYMEPA.
