Cyprus stays on British travellers’ radar for 2026 as interest rises in other islands

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus remains on the radar of British travellers planning island breaks for 2026, even as interest grows in other destinations, according to Condé Nast Traveller.


Islands continue to dominate summer wish lists

Condé Nast Traveller reported that islands continue to lead summer wish lists, with Mediterranean and Atlantic favourites again ranking among the world’s most sought-after places to unwind. The magazine said island holidays, long associated with tranquillity and escape, continue to resonate with UK travellers.

Readers’ Choice Awards highlight established favourites

The preference for island destinations was reflected in Condé Nast Traveller’s 2025 Readers’ Choice Awards, which listed the Isles of Scilly, Greece’s Naxos and Brazil’s Fernando de Noronha among the leading destinations. Turks and Caicos topped the Caribbean and Atlantic category.

TravelSupermarket identifies fastest-rising interest for 2026

Travel tastes were described as changing, with destinations rising in prominence due to social media, film and television exposure, or demand for less crowded experiences. Against this backdrop, TravelSupermarket analysed search data to identify island destinations seeing the sharpest rise in interest for summer 2026.

Greece features strongly in year-on-year search growth

Greece featured prominently in the rankings. Searches for Zante rose by 269 per cent year on year, while Kos also appeared in the top ten. Mykonos continued to attract attention, with searches for 2026 breaks up by 126 per cent.

Gozo records the largest surge

Gozo, the second-largest island in the Maltese archipelago, recorded a 1,703 per cent surge in searches. The rise was linked to the release of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II, which showcased Gozo’s landscapes and Mediterranean setting.
