Nicosia, Cyprus. Inland temperatures are expected to exceed 40C from Tuesday and remain above that level until at least Thursday, according to meteorological department official Iasonas Christodoulou.
Heat forecast
Christodoulou told the Cyprus News Agency on Sunday that conditions would remain mostly clear in the coming days, while temperatures rise steadily.
Inland temperatures are expected to reach about 38C on Monday, close to the seasonal average for late July.
From Tuesday, temperatures are forecast to exceed 40C. Highs of 41C to 42C are possible inland on Wednesday and Thursday.
Above seasonal levels
The average temperature for inland areas at this time of year is about 38C, Christodoulou said.
He said temperatures would be close to average on Monday but would be above normal from Tuesday through Thursday.
July rainfall
Meteorological department data showed that rainfall recorded so far in July reached 5.6mm, or 215 per cent of the month’s long-term average of 2.6mm, based on records from 1961 to 1990.
