Nicosia, Cyprus. The deputy ministry of social welfare on Sunday highlighted the importance of foster care as an essential form of alternative care for children under the care of the state on World Foster Day. It said Social Welfare Services play a key role in strengthening foster care through support for children and foster families and through the coordination of interventions aimed at ensuring children’s wellbeing.
Family environment
The deputy ministry said foster care gives children the opportunity to grow up in a family environment that supports their safety, care, emotional development and social inclusion.
Child protection priority
It added that strengthening family forms of care is a key priority of social welfare services for child protection, with a focus on the best interests and rights of the child.
Thanks to foster families
The deputy ministry also thanked all families that offer foster care.
