Nicosia, Cyprus. Disy MP Giorgos Karoullas said the closure of schools in Akrotiri, Trachoni, Episkopi and Asomatos following military activity was a preventive measure for the safety of children and teachers. He said schooling must continue.

House committee discussion

Karoullas spoke after a House education committee discussed the situation in Cyprus “due to the attacks against the territory of the Republic of Cyprus by drones”.

Call for continued schooling

He said the education ministry should activate tele-education protocols for all students, particularly graduates.

Security plans

Karoullas said it was necessary to update school security plans and that, with coordination, “we can handle the situation, securing both the safety of children and their right to education”.

How do you think schools should balance safety measures with students’ right to education during security incidents?
