ECDC reports low COVID-19 vaccination uptake across Europe

Cyprus Among Lowest Covid 19 Vaccination Rates In Europe, Ecdc Finds

Nicosia, Cyprus. COVID-19 vaccination uptake remained low across the European Union and European Economic Area between August 1, 2025 and March 27, 2026, according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.

European coverage

Data submitted by 19 of 30 countries showed median vaccination coverage of 6.4% among people aged 60 and over and 11.4% among those aged 80 and over. Coverage varied widely between countries.

About 13.9 million people aged over 60 received one vaccine dose during the reference period, including 4.6 million people aged over 80.

Only one country vaccinated more than 50% of its population aged 60 and over. Six countries exceeded that level among people aged over 80.

Cyprus figures

Cyprus recorded among the lowest vaccination rates of the countries that submitted data. Coverage was 0.7% among people aged 60 to 69, 1.7% among those aged 70 to 79, and 2.3% among people aged 80 and over.

No data was submitted for healthcare workers, people with chronic illnesses or pregnant women.

Data limitations

The ECDC said the figures should be interpreted with caution because countries use different data-recording methods and vaccination campaigns were ongoing when the data was collected.

Despite these limitations, the agency said participation in COVID-19 vaccination remained low across Europe.
