Ecologists’ Movement regrets loss of parliamentary representation after 25 years

The Ecologists' Movement after submitting candidacies in Nicosia

Nicosia, Cyprus. The Ecologists’ Movement said on Monday that it was disappointed to have failed to retain parliamentary representation after 25 years. It said it had supported efforts to maintain a green voice in parliament and would continue promoting political ecology and social justice despite the setback.

Parliamentary loss

The movement said the presence of a green voice in parliament was essential in challenging entrenched interests. It added that the result was particularly disappointing because parliament would lose a voice that had defended the public’s rights and interests for more than two decades.

Performance in the vote

The Ecologists’ Movement fell by 2.5 percentage points to 2 per cent, remaining outside parliament despite winning three seats in 2021.

Tribute to party members

The movement praised the work of its MPs and officials, saying they had dealt with broader social issues beyond party lines. It said the principles of political ecology and social justice would continue to be promoted through ongoing social and political action.
