Eide’s “guideline document” will not be presented at Swiss talks

Анастасиадис

The Conference on Cyprus started today in Crans-Montana. However, the discussions will be held in a completely different format to what it was previously agreed.

Cyprus has rejected the guideline document prepared by the UN Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Bart Eide. President Anastassiades said that this document “ignores the problems of Greek Cypriots”. In addition, the “general text” did not include the decisions taken at the meeting with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in New York.

Now, issues of security and guarantees, as well as management and distribution of power will be considered separately in several stages.

As reported earlier, the conference on “Cyprus problem” is being held with the participation of foreign ministers of Great Britain, Greece and Turkey, as well as observers from the EU.

The first round of negotiations with same participants took place earlier this year in Switzerland. But then the so-called “Geneva-1” talks did not result in any solutions.
