The Cyprus Parliament has approved the amendment for the legislation which provides for the pupils of the High Schools to dedicate several minutes for commemoration of the Enosis. The ledaer of Turkish-Cypriots Mustafa Akinci commented that “this decision will have strong impact on the efforts to tresolve the Cyprus problem peacefully”. However, Mr. Anastasides disagrees with his and perceives this day as historical even, which doe not have any connection to politics.
The Enosis referendum (the annexation of Cyprus to Greece) took place in January 1950, when the island was still a British colony. As the result, 95% of the Cypriots voted for the annexation.
