Limassol, Cyprus. The Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence and the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Evel) renewed a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday, reinforcing their collaboration and strengthening ties between research and business.
Agreement renewal signed in Limassol
The agreement was signed by chief executive officer Diofantos Hadjimitsis and chamber president Andreas Tsouloftas during the EXCELSIOR Space Industry Day Synergies and Collaboration event, held at the Blue Economy Innovation Centre in Limassol.
According to an announcement, the renewal further enhances cooperation between the two organisations, focusing on linking research activity with entrepreneurship and promoting new opportunities. The announcement said the cooperation aims to connect research with business activity and promote opportunities related to space technologies, Earth observation and digital innovation.
Focus on research applications and knowledge transfer
During the event, Hadjimitsis highlighted the importance of collaboration between the research community and the business sector, saying the centre seeks to transform research into applications and services that contribute to addressing societal challenges.
He cited the PRECiRRI precision irrigation digital platform as an example, noting that it uses Earth observation data and artificial intelligence to optimise irrigation and save water resources in agriculture. He added that collaborations with the business sector strengthen knowledge transfer and create opportunities for innovation and growth.
Chamber highlights partnership
Tsouloftas emphasised the significance of the partnership, describing it as a source of pride, and said the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry welcomes collaboration with the Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence.
