Antalya, Turkey. Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman met United Nations undersecretary-general for peacebuilding Rosemary DiCarlo on Saturday on the sidelines of the Antalya diplomacy forum. Erhurman’s office described the meeting as “productive”.

Confidence-building measures and Cyprus talks

According to Erhurman’s office, the two discussed confidence-building measures devised between Cyprus’ two sides and “the latest situation regarding the Cyprus problem”.

First meeting since Erhurman took office

The meeting was the first between Erhurman and DiCarlo since he took office last October, and came ahead of a visit to Cyprus by UN undersecretary-general for peace operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix on Sunday.

Flags shown in meeting photographs

Photographs released of the meeting showed the flags of the UN and of the ‘TRNC’ appearing intertwined on the table where Erhurman and DiCarlo were seated. Typically, the UN flag is only placed beside national flags of UN member states when heads of state meet secretaries-general.
