Nicosia, Cyprus. Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman is scheduled to meet the UN Secretary-General’s special representative in Cyprus on Monday, according to a UN source on Saturday. The meeting is set for 11am.
Meetings with UN envoy
The meeting between Erhurman and the UN representative will take place after the envoy met President Nikos Christodoulides on Friday.
No confirmation on leader meeting or envoy visit
There has been no confirmation of a new meeting between Christodoulides and Erhurman or of a planned visit by the UN secretary-general’s personal envoy, Maria Angela Holguin.
Positions discussed on Friday
During the Friday meeting, Christodoulides expressed the Greek Cypriot side’s political will to see developments that would allow a return to substantive negotiations as soon as possible. The UN representative reiterated the UN’s support for facilitating meetings at any point.
Awaiting response on proposed April date
Government spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis said the Greek Cypriot side had already proposed a specific date for a new meeting between the two leaders in April and was awaiting a response.
“So far there has been no response. We are waiting, and once it is determined there will be announcements,” he said.
