Paralimni, Cyprus. Adamantini Kosmas was crowned queen of the Famagusta carnival 2026 on Thursday night during a ceremony at Ayios Georgios square. The event featured music and carnival activities in front of a crowd.
Crowning ceremony and symbolic handover
Kosmas received the sceptre from last year’s king, Alkis Christou, in a symbolic handover that marked the official start of this year’s festivities.
Mayor’s remarks and acknowledgements
Paralimni-Deryneia mayor George Nikolettos thanked municipal council members, staff and volunteers for their work in organising the celebrations. He said their efforts were helping the Famagusta carnival grow into a major event.
Programme and dates
The municipality said the programme will include music activities and traditional events, combining entertainment with established carnival customs. Festivities are set to run until February 23, 2026, leading up to the grand Famagusta carnival parade.
Public invitation
The municipality called on residents and visitors to embrace the carnival atmosphere and take part in the celebrations.
