Faulty fireplace chimneys blamed for roof fires in Kato Lefkara and Akaki

Kato Lefkara, Cyprus. The fire brigade said a faulty fireplace chimney caused a roof fire at a home in Kato Lefkara on Monday evening. A separate roof fire in Akaki was also attributed to a faulty fireplace chimney.


Kato Lefkara incident

The fire brigade said it was notified at 6.54pm that a roof had caught fire in Kato Lefkara and dispatched three fire engines to extinguish the blaze. The fire was placed under control at 7.32pm.

Akaki incident

In a separate incident, the fire brigade said a roof caught fire in Akaki, again due to a faulty fireplace chimney. It was notified at 9.04pm and sent two fire engines to the site, with the fire placed under control at 10.28pm.

Residents and call-out figures

The fire brigade said the residents in both cases managed to exit the buildings safely. From 6am on Monday till 6am on Tuesday, it responded to 28 calls for help, including 14 fires and one false alarm.
