Kokkinotrimithia, Cyprus. A fire that started at noon on Friday near an abandoned shoe factory in the buffer zone of Kokkinotrimithia, Nicosia, has been brought under control.
Firefighting operation
Fire brigade spokesman Andreas Kettis said in a post on X that four fire engines, two additional vehicles from the Atlas and Support Cy volunteer groups, and a United Nations tanker were deployed to the area.
A firefighting aircraft also supported efforts to extinguish the blaze.
Damage and safety measures
According to Kettis, the fire burned approximately five hectares of wild vegetation, waste and wooden pallets.
Firefighting crews also preventively cooled two large old gas cylinders in the area.
