Firefighters extinguish Strovolos apartment blaze; separate Limassol fire damages motor vehicle

Strovolos, Cyprus. Firefighters brought a blaze in an abandoned apartment building in Strovolos under control within minutes on Tuesday night, the fire service said on Wednesday. A separate incident later the same night in Limassol involved a fire in waste materials and a two-wheeled motor vehicle.


Strovolos apartment building fire

The fire started in a pile of waste materials inside a second-floor flat and was reported at 10.44pm. Crews from Acropolis fire station extinguished it by 11.02pm, and the cause remains under investigation.

Separate Limassol incident

In Limassol, firefighters tackled another blaze involving waste materials in an open area after receiving a call at 10.56pm. A crew from Ayios Ioannis station found a two-wheeled motor vehicle on fire on arrival, and the vehicle was extensively damaged. Authorities said the blaze was caused by a malicious act.

Fire service activity and public notice

The fire service said it handled 26 incidents over 24 hours up until Wednesday morning, including 13 fires. It also urged the public not to be concerned about a planned exercise near Larnaca airport on Friday.
