Foot-and-mouth disease cases rise to 121 livestock units after new Mammari detection

Mammari, Cyprus. A total of 121 livestock units have been affected by foot-and-mouth disease following the confirmation of a new case announced on Wednesday. Updated figures released on Thursday also showed second-dose vaccination coverage at 84 per cent for cattle, 78 per cent for sheep and 41 per cent for pigs.


New case confirmed in Mammari

The latest case was detected within the infected zone in Mammari at a sheep and goat farm housing about 80 adult animals.

Culling measures

The Veterinary Services said the animals are being immediately culled.

Vaccination coverage and total animals culled

According to the agriculture ministry, around 6,650 animals have been culled since the disease was first detected in the Larnaca district in February.

Districts affected by culling operations

Culling operations have taken place in the districts of Nicosia, Limassol and Larnaca.
