Forestry department to install 75 safety ramps in artificial lakes across Cyprus

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus’ forestry department said on Friday that 75 safety ramps will be installed in artificial lakes across the island to help animals enter and exit the water safely. The department said the project is aimed at reducing incidents in which wild and stray animals become trapped.

Project purpose

The forestry department said the project is considered extremely important because incidents involving trapped wild and stray animals are recorded each year.

Risk to animals

According to the department, animals are often unable to climb steep or slippery banks, which can lead to exhaustion or, in the worst case, drowning.

Expected impact and cost

The department said the installation of 75 ramps will create safe escape routes, contributing to a reduction in animal losses and strengthening the protection of fauna and biodiversity. It added that the project is estimated to cost €17,000 and will be overseen by the forestry department.
