George Malekkos takes over as CITEA president, sets priorities on member value and AI responsibility

Nicosia, Cyprus. George Malekkos has taken over as president of the Cyprus Information Technology Enterprises Association (CITEA), setting priorities centred on member value, artificial intelligence and closer cooperation with the state and the education sector.


Leadership transition

In his first remarks as president, Malekkos thanked outgoing president Dimitris Nissiotis for his contribution and thanked CITEA members for the unanimous trust placed in him.

Focus on practical value for members

Malekkos said his main priority is for members to feel the value CITEA offers in practice through actions, participation, representation and substantial impact on the industry.

Expanded role in information technology and education links

He said CITEA is entering a new phase with a more active role in information technology, including participation in artificial intelligence communities, supporting the state and industry with know-how, and investing in the next generation through partnerships with schools.

Malekkos said CITEA is entering a new era and aims to leave a clear mark in the field of information technology.

Artificial intelligence framed as a responsibility

Malekkos said artificial intelligence should not be viewed solely as a technological development, adding that it is a responsibility. He said CITEA’s role is to ensure the transition is done properly for the benefit of society, the economy and future generations.
