Nicosia, Cyprus. Attorney-general George Savvides on Friday rejected reports that he intends to retire early, calling claims of an impending departure utterly unfounded. He said there had never been any thought or intention on his part to leave office before the end of his term.
Response to retirement reports
Speaking in response to questions about reports that he could step down in September, Savvides said he has no plans to resign.
“There was never any thought or intention to resign,” he said.
Reports and speculation
His comments followed reporting by Omega about a possible early retirement as part of broader changes allegedly being considered by the government among senior state officials.
The reports also included speculation about possible successors to the post, with Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos among the names mentioned in connection with the position.
Position maintained
Savvides moved quickly to dismiss the claims and said he does not intend to relinquish his role.
