Nicosia, Cyprus. The government said it intends to appoint multiple independent criminal investigators to examine the findings of the anti-corruption authority’s inquiry into the book Mafia State. The authority’s probe had concluded, among other things, that former president Nicos Anastasiades may bear criminal liability for abuse of power.
Government decision
Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said the decision follows the initial intention announced last week. He said the government plans to appoint a team of criminal investigators, rather than a single person, as soon as possible.
Selection process
Letymbiotis said the next step is the selection of suitable individuals to serve on the investigative team.
