London, United Kingdom. A heatwave and the men’s soccer World Cup increased consumer spending in Britain in June, according to data published on Tuesday by Barclays and the British Retail Consortium.

Weather and football demand

Hot weather boosted sales of clothing, electrical fans and air-conditioning units, the data showed.

Pubs also reported strong trade on the days England played in the World Cup.
