HIO warns Gesy beneficiaries to delete ongoing malicious SMS scam

Nicosia, Cyprus. The Health Insurance Organisation (HIO) on Monday warned that malicious text messages targeting Gesy beneficiaries continue to circulate and urged recipients to ignore and delete them immediately.

Ongoing scam and repeated warnings

The HIO said it had issued similar warnings last November and again in December, but the scam persists.

False claims and link request

The messages falsely claim to originate from Gesy and instruct recipients to follow a link to correct their personal details.

HIO and Gesy deny connection

The organisation said that neither it nor Gesy has any connection to the messages.

What HIO says it will not request via SMS

The HIO reiterated that it would never request passwords, login credentials, payment information or other personal data via SMS, nor would it ask the public to carry out financial transactions through electronic links.

Advice to beneficiaries

Beneficiaries were advised not to open the links contained in the messages and to delete them immediately.
