Nicosia, Cyprus. Hourly-paid government workers will hold a 24-hour strike on Wednesday to protest low wages and unresolved labour demands, unions said on Friday. The action was announced by SEK, PEO and Deok during negotiations on renewing the 2025-2027 collective agreement.
Strike action announced
The unions said they are seeking pay rises and additional benefits as part of the negotiations. They are also demanding that any agreed increases be applied retroactively from January 1, 2025.
Planned protest events
As part of the strike, workers will gather outside the finance ministry at 10am and then march to the presidential palace.
Union position
Union representatives said the mobilisation is intended to highlight workers’ demands and the importance of the services provided by hourly-paid government staff.
