Housing Finance Corporation staff authorise Etyk to escalate action, including possible strike

Housing Finance Organisation

Nicosia, Cyprus. Employees of the Housing Finance Corporation have authorised trade union Etyk to take all measures deemed necessary to meet their demands, including possible strike action, the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) reported.

General assembly decision

At a general assembly on Wednesday, staff granted Etyk authority to escalate action if required, including the possibility of strike measures. CNA said employees voted to approve the authorisation to the union to take any measures considered necessary to resolve the issues raised.

Collective agreement and staffing concerns

According to information obtained by CNA, employees are seeking renewal of their collective agreement, which expired in 2016. They also cited chronic understaffing within the organisation as a pressing issue affecting operations.

Promotions and position changes

Employees raised concerns over the non-implementation of promotions to senior clerk positions, with the last such promotions having taken place in 2008. They also complained about the unilateral abolition of senior officer positions, describing the move as detrimental to career progression and organisational structure.

Finance Ministry approval cited as obstacle

It was indicated during the assembly that the workers’ demands appear to be encountering obstacles related to approval by the Finance Ministry, according to CNA.
