Ayiazi

Islamabad, Pakistan. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi left Pakistan before the arrival of a US delegation, local media reported on Saturday. Iranian officials said the two delegations would not hold direct talks in Islamabad.

No direct talks planned in Islamabad

The development followed an earlier statement by Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, who confirmed that the Iranian and US delegations would not hold direct talks in Islamabad.

US delegation expected to arrive

Israeli outlet Kan News reported, citing Pakistani sources, that the US delegation was expected to arrive on Saturday night.

Kan News also reported that Tehran is refusing to talk to Washington until the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is lifted.

Mediators’ outlook and Iran’s position

Kan News reported that Pakistani mediators appeared pessimistic about the course of peace efforts. Iran also said it would not accept what it described as “maximalist demands” as Islamabad hosted peace efforts.
