Tehran, Iran. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei said retaliation for his slain predecessor and father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was “the demand of the nation” and “must certainly” take place.

Funeral message

Mojtaba Khamenei made the remarks in a written message released on his Telegram account during funeral ceremonies for his father.

Airstrikes

Ali Khamenei was killed in US-Israeli airstrikes on February 28, with the funeral ceremonies held months later.

Retaliation pledge

“We pledge to avenge the blood of the martyred leader and all the martyrs of these two wars from the criminal and disgraced killers,” Mojtaba Khamenei said.
