Tehran, Iran. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran was not seeking to build an atomic bomb but would not relinquish what it described as its right to enrich uranium, as Washington-Tehran talks got underway.
Statement on nuclear policy
Pezeshkian said Iran could put in writing that it had no intention of building the bomb, according to a statement reported on the Iranian Presidency’s webpage. He added, however, that enrichment would not be abandoned.
Reference to treaty rights
The Non-Proliferation Treaty signed by Iran guarantees the right to enrich uranium for non-military purposes, according to the report.
