The U.S. Justice Department published millions of additional files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, including emails that appeared to show Howard Lutnick visited Epstein’s private island for lunch years after Lutnick said he had cut off ties. The records also included emails involving Elon Musk and numerous documents that mention President Donald Trump.
Scope of the release
Todd Blanche, the U.S. deputy attorney general, said the newly released batch marked the end of the Trump administration’s planned disclosures under a law requiring Epstein-related files to be made public. Blanche said the cache includes more than 3 million pages, 2,000 videos and 180,000 images.
Emails referencing Lutnick and Musk
Among the materials were emails indicating Lutnick, identified as Trump’s commerce secretary, apparently visited Epstein’s island for lunch years after he claimed to have cut off ties. In another set of emails, Musk, described as a billionaire and former Trump adviser, asked whether Epstein was planning any parties but declined an invitation to visit the island.
Mentions of prominent figures
The documents included references to figures across politics, business and entertainment, reflecting Epstein’s elite connections, including mentions of Trump, who was friends with Epstein before Epstein’s crimes became public. The files also referenced Kevin Warsh, whom Trump nominated on Friday to be chairman of the Federal Reserve, appearing in an email from a publicist to Epstein listing 43 people, including Martha Stewart, said to be headed to a Christmas gathering. It was not clear whether Warsh knew Epstein or why Epstein received the note, and Warsh did not immediately comment.
Previous scrutiny and denials
Earlier releases have renewed scrutiny of Epstein’s relationships with other prominent people, including former President Bill Clinton and former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, who have denied wrongdoing and said they regret their association with the late financier.
Documents mentioning Trump
Trump has denied any knowledge of Epstein’s crimes, but the issue has followed him for months, partly because he promised during his 2024 campaign to release the files and later reversed course after taking office. The new release included hundreds of documents that mention Trump, many of them collections of media reports.
Investigator emails and Justice Department statement
One file describes what appeared to be internal emails by federal investigators reviewing salacious accusations involving Trump and Epstein. The emails, dated August 2025, gave no indication that claims had been substantiated, and investigators noted several accusers were deemed not credible. The Justice Department said in a press release that some documents contained untrue and sensationalist claims against Trump.
