Nicosia, Cyprus. The Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Keve) welcomed the election of its secretary general Philokypros Roussounides as vice president of Eurochambres’ skills and employment committee. Keve said the appointment strengthens Cyprus’ contribution to shaping EU policy in employment, skills development, and vocational education and training.
Role within Eurochambres
Keve said Eurochambres represents more than 20 million businesses and serves as the primary voice for European chambers of commerce and small and medium-sized enterprises by linking local entrepreneurs with EU policymakers to support economic growth.
Recognition and institutional presence
Keve said the election is recognition of its role at the European level and enhances Cyprus’ institutional presence in European decision-making processes, particularly in areas affecting businesses and the labour market.
Focus on SMEs and skills policy
Keve said that in his new role Roussounides is expected to promote the positions of the business community on employment and skills issues, with particular emphasis on the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises.
Labour market and education links
Keve said the appointment is expected to support stronger links between the labour market and education and training systems, which it described as critical for sustainable economic growth. The chamber said collaboration between businesses, education providers, and policymakers will be prioritised to better align workforce skills with market needs and ensure human capital development keeps pace with economic demands.
Broader engagement in EU decision-making
Keve said the development is part of its broader efforts to strengthen participation in European decision-making centres.
