Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Russia was aware of the situation and was maintaining intensive contacts with Cuba through diplomatic and other channels.
Russia criticizes U.S. approach while seeking to restore ties
Russia is trying to restore its own battered ties with the United States as U.S. President Donald Trump seeks to broker a deal to end its war in Ukraine, but the Kremlin said it was unhappy with Washington’s treatment of Cuba. Peskov said U.S. tactics were causing difficulties and that Moscow was discussing possible ways to resolve the problems or provide assistance.
Question raised about jet fuel shortages and Russian tourists
Peskov was responding to a question about reported jet fuel shortages and whether they could affect Russian tourists seeking to leave Cuba. Russia’s ambassador to Cuba, Viktor Coronelli, told the state RIA news agency last week that Moscow had repeatedly supplied oil to Cuba in recent years and would continue to do so.
