Lakatamia residential building evacuated after fire in elevator shaft

Lakatamia, Cyprus. A residential building in Lakatamia was evacuated on Tuesday afternoon after a fire erupted in the building’s elevator shaft, the fire department said on Wednesday.


Cause and damage

The fire department said the blaze was caused by waste materials that had been dumped in the elevator shaft. It resulted in minor damage to the stairwell and a number of apartments in the building.

Evacuation and investigation

The building was evacuated as a precautionary measure. An investigation into the cause of the fire has been launched.
