Limassol court remands cyclist for five days after drugs found during police stop

Limassol, Cyprus. A 32-year-old cyclist was remanded for five days by the Limassol district court after police found drugs on him when he failed to stop for a check. Police said the man attempted to flee and was later detained.

Police stop and arrest

Police said that at around 7.30pm members of the Mmad unit signalled for a cyclist to stop on Liopetri street in Limassol. The cyclist did not stop and attempted to flee, losing his balance and falling off the bike, police said.

Police said the man then ran off on foot but was stopped a short time later. They said he pushed a police officer and shouted while officers attempted to handcuff him.

Search and findings

The man was taken to the Ayios Ioannis police station, where police said it was discovered he had been living illegally on the island since January 3, 2024.

Police said a search found 26 foil-wrapped packages containing a total of 20g of cannabis, 16 similar packages containing 9g of amphetamines, and €442 in cash.

Court decision and investigation

Police said he was taken to court in Limassol on Sunday morning, where the court ordered his remand for five days.

Investigations are continuing by police from Ayios Ioannis and the drugs squad Ykan, police said.
