Limassol crews collect 50 tonnes of waste after carnival parade, municipality says

Limassol, Cyprus. Limassol municipality crews collected 50 tonnes of waste after Sunday’s carnival parade, the municipality said on Tuesday. The waste included 35 tonnes of paper and 15 tonnes of mixed waste.


Cleanup operation and timeline

The crews worked through the night and reopened Makarios III avenue by 9pm on Sunday, three hours after the parade ended. The city centre reopened by 4am on Monday.

Municipality and mayor’s comments

Limassol mayor Yiannis Armeftis said the fast cleanup was made possible through political will, clear decisions and targeted investments in cleaning equipment. He said the municipality renewed its machinery and introduced five new modern sweepers.

Resources deployed

The municipality said the work was carried out with 50 workers, 14 sweepers, two rubbish trucks, four diggers, one loader, one large vacuum cleaner, four lorries and one smaller truck.
