Limassol, Cyprus. Limassol municipality said on Wednesday it is examining all issues raised in an Audit Office report, stressing that most findings concern the period before the current municipal authority took office.
The municipality said it respects the Audit Office’s work and considers its recommendations a tool to improve operations and strengthen transparency, accountability and good administration.
Review of findings
The municipality said most of the report’s findings relate to the period from 2017 to 2024. It said all issues would be thoroughly examined to allow corrective measures to be taken and ensure compliance with the Audit Office’s recommendations.
It added that clarifications had already been provided for most observations and that its responses were included in the report.
Staffing and contracts
On the placement of workers in permanent and pensionable positions, the municipality said the posts had been approved by the competent ministry.
It said there had been full compliance regarding the renaming of positions and the granting of personal scales.
Regarding service contracts, the municipality said the practice identified by Auditor General Andreas Papaconstantinou had been discontinued.
On personal benefits for staff, it said these were guaranteed through collective agreements that the municipality is required to implement.
Overtime measures
The municipality said it recognised the need to address overtime work and was beginning to implement measures outlined in previous correspondence with the Audit Office.
It said it remains available to the Audit Office and will use its suggestions to improve municipal operations.
