Livestock breeders’ association president reports pistol threat and vehicle damage

Delikipou, Cyprus. Neophytos Neophytou, president of the newly formed “Voice of Livestock Breeders” association, reported to police on Tuesday that he was threatened by a man holding a pistol and attacked by three people on the Delikipou-Lythrodontas road.

Police said Neophytou went to a police station at about 11.25pm to file a complaint after the incident, which had occurred shortly before.


Police account of incident

According to police, three people riding two motorcycles stopped Neophytou. Police said one of the suspects pointed a pistol at him and threatened him.

Police added that the other two individuals caused damage to the front windshield of his vehicle.

Investigations into the case are ongoing.

The “Voice of Livestock Breeders” association is an interest group of livestock breeders formed amid the outbreak of foot and mouth disease.

The group has repeatedly voiced disapproval of the government’s measures to combat the disease, including the culling of thousands of animals, and has called for what it describes as appropriate financial compensation.
