New York, United States. Preparations at Madison Square Garden have fueled media reports that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce will hold wedding-related events there this week. Neither Swift nor Kelce has confirmed the plans, and Swift’s publicist did not respond to a Reuters request for comment.
Preparations at the venue
Workers were seen bringing food and decorations into Madison Square Garden, with news cameras capturing foliage, a box marked “garden party” and another labeled lobster meat. The venue’s public calendar shows no events scheduled until Tuesday, a rare six-day gap during an otherwise busy summer concert schedule.
Reports of planned events
Several media outlets reported that Swift and Kelce will host a 100-person event at the arena on Thursday, followed by a larger celebration for 1,000 people on Friday. Reuters confirmed that an event planning company had applied for a permit to close streets around Madison Square Garden from Thursday through mid-day Saturday. Fencing was being erected around the venue’s entrances this week.
City activity and heat emergency
The reported events come during a busy U.S. Independence Day weekend in New York City. Tall ships are due to sail into New York Harbor on Saturday to mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, and a World Cup soccer match is scheduled for Sunday in nearby New Jersey.
On Wednesday, onlookers also stopped to watch a Russian couple climb to the top of the Empire State Building and unfurl a banner calling for world peace. At the same time, high temperatures prompted city officials to declare a heat emergency.
Official response and security measures
Asked about a possible Swift wedding, New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani urged residents to stay indoors because of the extreme weather.
“If you happen to be getting married at MSG, you will be staying inside and staying cool, and I think it’s a good example to set for the city at large,” he told reporters earlier this week.
Madison Square Garden sits above a major commuter hub, and passersby stopped on Wednesday to watch preparations. The New York Times reported, citing a memo titled “Taylor Swift wedding at Madison Square Garden,” that hundreds of local law enforcement officers are expected to patrol the area.
New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch told reporters that officers were “tracking” an event at the Garden on Friday night and “will, of course, have a detail in place.” A department spokesperson did not respond to a Reuters request for additional information.
Public attention
The relationship between the “Love Story” singer and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end has attracted significant public attention. Speculation has increased since the couple announced their engagement in August after a public courtship that included Swift attending Chiefs games and Kelce traveling to her concerts.
