Limassol, Cyprus. A 20-year-old man was arrested late on Tuesday after allegedly leaving the scene of a traffic collision in which a 24-year-old electric scooter rider was critically injured.
The injured rider, a Syrian national, remains in critical condition in hospital.
Investigation continues
Police located and impounded the vehicle believed to have been involved in the collision for examination.
During questioning, the suspect told investigators he left the scene because he did not have the necessary documents to drive the car.
Rider’s circumstances
Police said the scooter rider was not wearing a helmet and was travelling on a road where electric scooters are prohibited.
Investigators also believe the rider failed to stop at a stop sign before being struck by a passing car.
Limassol traffic police are continuing their investigation into the collision.
