A 37-year-old being detained in custody at the Lakatamia police station was found dead in his cell on Thursday morning.
He been arrested on Wednesday in connection with a case of domestic violence.
Police who responded to the call were attacked by the man, leading to his arrest and detention at the Lakatamia police station.
His death was confirmed by doctors at the Nicosia general hospital.
