Zygi, Cyprus. A man was rescued on Sunday morning after the craft he was sailing in was damaged in the sea off Zygi. Authorities said he was pulled from the water and taken to hospital as a precaution.
Rescue operation launched
At around 5.30am, the Joint Rescue and Coordination Centre launched the Nearchos rescue plan.
Emergency response
Speedboats from the port and maritime police were sent to the area, along with the army’s underwater disasters unit and a police helicopter.
Transfer to hospital
The man was pulled from the sea by a coast guard speedboat and transferred to an ambulance waiting at the Zygi fishing shelter. He was said to be in good health.
