Meloni postpones Cyprus visit after Modena incident injures at least eight

Modena, Italy. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has postponed her planned visit to Cyprus following an incident in Modena that injured at least eight people, with four in serious condition. Meloni is returning urgently to Italy.


Visit postponed after Modena incident

An official announcement said Meloni will travel to Modena together with Italian President Sergio Mattarella to be close to the injured, their families and the community. The statement said Meloni’s visit to Cyprus will be rescheduled at a later date.

Cyprus reaction

Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said the Cypriot government attaches particular importance to further strengthening relations between Cyprus and Italy, as well as cooperation on European and regional issues. He added that Cyprus expressed its solidarity with the Italian government, the Italian people and all those affected by the incident.
