Volos, Greece. Greek industrial and energy company Metlen announced it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with France’s Naval Group to explore collaboration in submarine and surface ship projects. The signing took place on March 19 at the M Technologies defence facilities in Volos.

Signing and scope of cooperation

Metlen said the MoU was signed in the presence of French Ambassador to Greece Laurence Auer and is aimed at exploring collaboration in submarine and surface ship projects.

Supply chain and existing cooperation

Metlen said the MoU strengthens an already established partnership and positions the company as a strategic partner within Naval Group’s supply chain. The agreement builds on existing cooperation between the two companies in naval programmes.

Work linked to the FDI frigate

According to the announcement, Naval Group already benefits from Metlen’s expertise in manufacturing some key elements for the FDI frigate on both Hellenic and French programmes. The statement added that Naval Group considers Metlen’s know-how a key asset that could lead to broader industrial cooperation across multiple naval platforms for surface ships and submarines for global markets.

European defence ambitions and bilateral ties

Metlen said the MoU reflects broader ambitions within the European defence sector, with both companies aiming to support complex naval systems and contribute to a more resilient and competitive European defence ecosystem. The company also said the agreement reflects strengthening Franco-Greek industrial ties and reinforces bilateral cooperation.

Earlier collaboration

Metlen said the cooperation follows earlier collaboration launched in 2022.
