Nicosia, Cyprus. In Toto Gallery will host Missing Frequencies, a multisensory video installation by artist Nafsika Hadjichristou, from July 28 to 30. Presented by ABR – Alternative Brains Rule, the exhibition explores experiences of partial hearing through sound, image, texture and vibration.
Multisensory installation
The work combines moving image, photography, animation, collage, experimental sound and haptic technologies. It examines sound and its absence through a fragmented, intimate and bodily experience.
Organisers said the installation brings sound, image, texture and vibration into dialogue, inviting audiences to consider how perception can differ from one body to another.
Fragments and sensory translation
Developed through a process of foraging, the installation brings together moving-image fragments, textures, visual rhythms, distorted sounds and moments of mishearing. The composition does not follow a single narrative.
The exhibition uses partial information, interruptions, bodily sensations and sensory translation. Captions, collage, texture and haptic elements are included alongside moving image and experimental sound.
Sound can be heard, seen and felt, while vibrations provide another means of encountering rhythm, distortion and intensity through the body.
Accessibility features
Audio description, captions, haptic interpretation of sound and tactile experiences are incorporated into the work. Visitors can experience the installation standing or seated, with or without audio description, and through a haptic cushion that translates elements of the soundtrack into vibration.
